City continues spending spree as they sign Manaco Star

Manchester City have completed the signing of French international left-back Benjamin Mendy from Monaco after grueling negotiations that spanned weeks and three failed bids.

Mendy joins the Blues for a fee reported to be in the region of £52million and will sign the five-year deal. He will wear the number 22 shirt. The 23-year-old exploded on to the scene last season after arriving at Monaco from Marseille, starring in the side that stunned France by winning Ligue 1 ahead of PSG and reaching the Champions League semi-final.
Mendy was outstanding in the second leg of City’s Champions League tie with Monaco, with Pep Guardiola witnessing the left-back’s pace, power and excellent crossing ability up close as he set up Fabinho’s goal at the Stade Louis II.
Negotiations for the player proved far more difficult than when City signed his teammate Bernardo Silva earlier this summer, but in the end Guardiola has the left-back he wanted, giving City two elite full-backs in the form of Mendy and Kyle Walker, with another new recruit, Danilo, able to replace and rotate with both of them. Mendy said to the official site: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining Manchester City. They are one of Europe’s leading Clubs and in Pep Guardiola they have a manager committed to playing attacking football.
