Kane Scores first Champions League Hat trick

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane became only the seventh Englishman to score a hat-trick in the UEFA Champions League. Look at the elite list of stars he joined. After impressive domestic performances for Spurs over the last three campaigns, Kane has started to show his worth in Europe, scoring five goals in Spurs' first two Champions League group matches.

On Tuesday night, the 24-year-old scored an impressive hat-trick against APOEL, making him the only the seventh English player to ever do so since the competition changed from the European Champions Cup to the UEFA Champions League.

The first Englishman to hit a hat-trick in the elite competition was former Blackburn Rovers striker Mike Newell, who did so against Rosenborg in December 1995.

Two years later, Andy Cole scored three times for Manchester United against Dutch club Feyenoord, and did it again in 2000 against Anderlecht.

Michael Owen became the third English player to hit the back of the net on three occasions in one match in 2002, when he singlehandedly tore Spartak Moscow’s defence apart in a 3-1 win.

In 2003, Alan Shearer scored his first UCL hat-trick for Newcastle against Bayer Leverkusen, with Wayne Rooney following for the Red Devils the year after. The match against Fenerbahce was not only his UCL debut, but his club debut for United.
