Sturridge not concerned about injury Ahead of Premier league Return

Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge has dismissed any fears he suffered a serious injury against Bayern Munich on Tuesday, saying he was withdrawn from the action because of "fatigue.

The striker rushed forward late on in the game to round off a 3-0 win for the Reds in their Audi Cup match, although after executing a deft finish, he appeared to be in some discomfort and was substituted soon after.

Liverpool confirmed that Sturridge will not take part in the team's clash with Atletico Madrid in the same tournament on Wednesday, although he's not anticipated to miss any more fixtures.

But Sturridge, who has struggled with injury issues in the past, said he's fine. "We've done a lot of running, a lot of work we train on the morning of games and things like that," he said, I think it's fatigue, to be honest. I'll be OK. Sturridge was one of a number of players to shine for Liverpool at the Allianz Arena in the comprehensive victory over a below-par Bayern.

After first-half goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, the Premier League side were in complete control. With Bayern in disarray at the back in the second period, Sturridge pounced to net a third, although the apparent injury threatened to put a dampener on the evening for the Reds.

The dash of speed, the calm finish and the subsequent niggle encapsulated the forward's Liverpool career in recent seasons. Liverpool supporters will be delighted to hear Sturridge is still feeling good, though, as the England international has a part to play for Klopp's side.

Perhaps not as a starter, though. Against Bayern, the Reds fielded Mane, Salah and Roberto Firmino as part of a front three, with Philippe Coutinho settling into a role in midfield. Sturridge has been part of a Reds attack that has been on fire in pre-season.

The former Chelsea man showed towards the back end of the last campaign that he has something to offer at the highest level still. Sturridge may be injured often, but he is so gifted and such an instinctive player that it doesn't take him long to get back up to speed.

After almost two seasons in charge at Liverpool, Klopp will be aware of just how far he can push Sturridge at this point. That means he may not be one of the Reds' most active players in the coming campaign, but his impact can still be one of major significance.
