Sanchez v Aguero: Arsenal man is ahead in battle of the South Americans going into clash with Manchester City

They are two of the Premier League's deadliest strikers, and the similarities between Alexis Sanchez and Sergio Aguero don't end there. Both diminutive South Americans who have thrived in the Premier League, neither is certain of their future at their current club.

And as Arsenal and Manchester City prepare to do battle on Sunday, both could be crucial to their teams chances of playing Champions League football next season - whether they are there or not.
In the statistical battle between the two men, it is Sanchez who has had the edge this season, in almost every department.
First and foremost, the Arsenal man leads his Manchester City counterpart on goals scored, with 18 to Aguero's 13, and despite Sanchez playing more football, he is also ahead on minutes per goal - with 126 minutes per goal, compared to Aguero's 130 minutes. That's despite the Argentine striker having more shots per game than the Chilean, Aguero shooting almost five times again, but Sanchez less than four per game.
Of course Sanchez has benefited from being the main man for Arsenal this season, while Aguero has had to compete with Gabriel Jesus for a starting spot since January, only being assured of his place in Pep Guardiola's XI once the Brazilian was injured.
Yet Sanchez's shots to goal percentage suggests that the Chile star may also just be in better form, averaging a 19 per cent conversion compared to Aguero's 14 per cent.
It is not just in front of goal that Sanchez is out in front. When it comes to dribbles he has completed 25 more this season (74 to 59), and at a better rate (68 per cent to 62 per cent).
He has also created a massive 65 chances, compared to just 15 from Aguero, and laid on nine assists.
Aguero is yet to provide a single goal for a team-mate this season, despite playing 27 games under Guardiola.
However, none of Sanchez's statistical dominance will matter if he and his Arsenal team-mates cannot find a way to beat City.
Defeat would see Arsenal fall 10 points behind their rivals in the race for Champions League football, albeit with a game in hand.
